The sun is out, baseball season is in full swing, and the beer is cold. Good times to be had all around with some cheap home brewed Coopers! Being a beer enthusiast I’m always looking for an occasion to drink beer. As we finish up the month of April, the month of May brings us a nice little pseudo-holiday, in Cinco De Mayo. Similar to St. Patty’s day this is just another great excuse for Americans to blow off some steam and drink a little beer. Just swap the green beer for a cerveza, the Irish Car Bombs(Guinness and Irish cream) for Tequila, and the music on the juke box and viola(voila), we have Cinco De Mayo. Though, Cinco De Mayo is not independence day, that would be September 16 and is a much more symbolic/patriotic holiday for Mexicans.
Cinco De Mayo, is the celebration of the Mexican Army’s courageous defeat of the French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, and marked the last time an army from another continent attacked the Americas. A great thing to be sure, and certainly a great reason for us American’s to embrace what we think is Mexican culture. So break out the nachos, put together some hard shell tacos, and crack the cervezas its Cinco De Mayo!
