Trickle-Down-Your-Throat Economics of Beer
During this period of economic crisis and political uncertainty, many of us beer lovers are finding more to drink about…not that we ever needed a reason in the first place.
Red or blue state, elephant or donkey, republican or democrat, conservative or liberal, the one thing we all have in common is that we love good beer. Past presidents, such as FDR, Grover Cleveland, and our founding father George Washington, were all beer drinkers. As we reflect on past presidents, we’d like to pay a special homage to President Jimmy Carter for legalizing home brewing back in 1976. Thanks Jimmy…
One of the greatest freedoms in this great land is freedom to brew and drink our own beers. Well, at least in our opinion. No matter if you are watching the political debates or Saturday Night Live spoofing political candidates, its knowing you have that freedom is always comforting. Also, tipping back a few while watching these events is not a bad idea either. We’d like to consider this our version of trickle-down economics of beer.
Many of us are feeling the pinch of the economic crisis. There is no bigger concern than that of having no money. Well, that and having no beer, of course. We had our resident beer economist (anyone available at the time) to do a cost-benefit blah…blah…blah analysis thing to calculate which beer option has the most savings.
First he did a cost breakdown of a six-pack of a beer comparable to Coopers. Then he did the same for his favorite beer kit package, Australian Pale Ale with recommended fermentables. Lastly, he even took one of our competitors Mr. <fill in the blank> to see how we matched up with them.
Six-Pack of Beer
Pack cost (with tax) = 7.65
6 / 12oz bottles = 72 ounces
$7.65 divided by 72 = $.11 an ounce
Mr. <Blank> (median price beer package)
Pack Cost = $15.95
2 gallons (128oz per gallon) = 256 ounces
$15.95 divided by 256 = $.06 an ounce
Australian Pale Ale Package
Package Cost = $28.99
6 gallons (128oz per gallon) = 768 ounces
$28.99 divided by 768 = $.04 an ounce

Now, we know this is not scientific, and we are not professed economic experts. But, we think the numbers speak for themselves, and Coopers does make a darn good beer.
In light of this new economic insight, we would like to offer our own crisis bailout. Right now you can get the Australian Pale Ale Package for only $26.99.
No matter what your political views are, we at MakeBeer believe that everyone should be given the same opportunity. So brew up, and drink up, and let the beer trickle down your throat in the hope of economic relief and political change.
